The spring weather in the Castle Country area has been so fickle this year. Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood took time to remind citizens that although the weather is warm in the valley, the backcountry is a totally different story with its unpredictable climate changes.

“We had a Search and Rescue last week called out that there was a side-by-side stuck up on Bruin Point and the folks were ill-prepared to be up there,” stated Wood. “So, just want to let people know, be prepared for anything that you may get yourself into and the fuel range on a side-by-side is over 100 miles, you can go a long way.” Luckily, when the Search and Rescue team arrived the individuals had already got their machine unstuck and were glad to head home. If you find yourself in trouble do not wait to call Search and Rescue, hesitation can put yourself or your group in harm’s way.

Moving on to another important matter, the school year has approximately three weeks left and students will be looking forward to high school graduation celebrations. “Last year we had an enhanced law enforcement presence for graduation night. We’re trying to curb the underage drinking issues we have in our county and that will happen again this year,” stated Wood. A hard stance is being taken so that there are no tragedies due to underage drinking. A campaign will begin around the local schools to get students on board to celebrate in a safe and responsible manner by choosing to do other healthier activities.
