PRICE – Nine USU Eastern softball players received All-Region XVIII honors at the 2018 Region XVIII Tournament on Wednesday.

Sophomore shortstop Cassidy Howe received first team All-Region XVIII honors.

Howe, who was second team All-Region last season, finished the regular season batting .513 with 79 hits, 47 RBIs, 22 doubles, and 12 home runs for USU Eastern.

Sophomores Madison Blauer, Shelby Shurtliff and freshman Carlye Levy earned second team All-Region XVIII honors.

Blauer started every game in center field and batted .333 with 47 hits, 23 RBIs, and five doubles for USU Eastern.

In her lone season with the Eagles, Shurtliff played third base and batted .331 with 40 hits, 30 RBIs, eight doubles and five home runs.

In the circle in 2018, Levy started 24 games with 14 wins delivering 101 strikeouts with a 4.90 ERA. At the plate, Levy batted .467 with 50 hits, seven doubles, three triples, and 21 RBIs.

Freshmen McKenna Gubanich, McKenzie Dorney, Taylor Passarella, Avery Blackhurst, and Ashley Sweat each received Honorable Mention All-Region XVIII on Wednesday.

In 2018, the USU Eastern softball team won 23 games during the regular season including four over nationally ranked teams.

On Wednesday the Eagles lost 5-3 to the College of Southern Nevada in the first round of the tournament.

The Eagles will take on the loser of the game between SLCC and Snow College on Thursday at noon.
