PRICE – Baseball lost to the Colorado Northwest Spartans 4-2 on Wednesday in the first round of the 2018 Region XVIII Tournament in Twin Falls.

USU Eastern came into the game as the four seed and had to go up against the fifth seeded Spartans to advance to the Tournament semifinals on Thursday.

The Eagles got another great performance out of Jarod Lessar on Wednesday. Lessar didn’t allow a run until the top of the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth the Eagles took a 1-0 lead after Cole Fossat scored on a Steven Ortiz ground out.

The Spartans would take the lead the next inning with a two-run home run by Eric Jordan.

After a walk with the bases loaded, the Spartans took a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

They would hold onto that lead until USU Eastern’s Hunter Porritt was walked with bases loaded.

In the ninth inning, the Spartans would add one more run and close out the Eagles to get the win.

Both teams struggled to get runners home on Wednesday, USU Eastern left 13 runners on base while CNCC left nine on base.

Lessar finished the game with seven strikeouts and gave up three runs, six hits and three walks in seven innings of work.

Sophomore Jesse Rowley led all batters with three hits.

The Eagles are not done in Twin Falls, they will move on in the loser’s bracket tomorrow.

They will play at 7 p.m tomorrow night against the lowest losing seed from the semifinal games.
