PRICE – Utah State Eastern baseball defeated the Colorado Northwest 4-3 on Thursday night in an elimination game at the Region XVIII Tournament in Twin Falls.

After losing to the Spartans on Wednesday, the Eagles bounced back to move on to the next round of the tournament.

The Eagles got on the board first in the bottom of the third with a Cole Fossat RBI single. Jesse Rowleywould score next that inning on a wild pitch to put the Eagles up 2-0 early on CNCC.

Behind the arm of pitcher Chase Stratton, the Eagles would not allow a run to score until the bottom of the seventh. Stratton finished the game with six strikeouts and only allowed four hits with two runs in 66.1 innings of work.

USU Eastern added a run in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single by Fossat to push the lead to 3-0.

The Spartans would make a come back and tie the game up at 3-3 after a couple of wild pitches and an error by the Eagles in the top of the seventh.

Later that inning the Eagles would get the go ahead score from an RBI single from Jarrett Hunt.

Fossat took over on the mound in the eighth inning to close the game and help the Eagles get the win. Fossat pitched two innings with five strikeouts and did not give up a hit in two innings of work.

The win over CNCC keeps the Eagles a live in the losers bracket in the tournament.

USU Eastern will take on the two seed Salt Lake Community College at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow in Twin Falls.
