Helper uses seventh inning rally to top Roosevelt

Jadon Robertson capped off a two-run seventh inning with a walk-off single to help the Helper Merchants defeat Roosevelt 7-6 Tuesday night at Ernie Gardner Field in Helper.

Playing for the first time since June 30, Helper exploded out of the gate with five runs in the first inning. Roosevelt slowly chipped away and used a four-run sixth inning to take the lead, setting up the dramatic final frame.

Cody Lowe earned the win on the mound in a complete game effort. Allowing just five hits and two earned runs, Lowe recorded four strikeouts and walked two batters.

Helping his own cause at the plate, Lowe finished 2-4 with a triple, home run and three RBIs. Trailing by two in the seventh, Lowe started the rally with a solo shot in the first at bat of the inning.

Nate Olson delivered a solid outing offensively finishing 1-3 with a walk and three stolen bases. As a team Helper accumulated 10 hits, doubling up Roosevelt.

Tuesday’s win moves Helper to 7-3 in Southern Division play, keeping them in the running for the division’s top spot.

With only three games remaining on the regular season slate, Helper will return to the diamond on Friday at home against Westlake at 8:00 p.m.. The home finale will take place Saturday at noon against Springville.
