Wellington City would like to invite the community to their annual Pioneer Days gathering on Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21. This year’s theme is entitled Reflecting Back….Looking Forward which is fitting for this year is a celebration of 140 years of this close-knit community.

“First off on Friday night we have the dinner in the park and it’s provided by the Cowboy Club,” said Mayor Joan Powell. “We do have advance tickets on sale, we do have those at city hall and of course dinner is a little bit cheaper if you buy them in advance.” The dinner will be held from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm with advance ticket prices of $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for children. Tickets may be purchased at the event with a slight increase in price.

There will be live entertainment to enjoy after dinner. “And then between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm we have The Countdown Band that’s going to play for us this year. Dr. Jensen from High Desert Orthopedic has helped sponsor The Countdown Band for us,” stated Mayor Powell. The band specializes in classic rock from the 60s through the 90s, plus plays some of the modern hits that get people dancing. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit and enjoy the free concert.

Saturday morning the annual Wellington City Fire Department’s Breakfast in the Park will start at 7:00 am till 9:00 am. Guests will not go away hungry as Mayor Powell explains, “We have pancakes, bacon, eggs, sausage, ham, hash browns, juice and milk.” Tickets prices for the breakfast is $5.00 per person or $20.00 family.

This year’s parade will be led by Grand Marshalls DeLoy and Betty Anderson both longtime residents of Wellington. The parade will begin at 10:00 am down Wellington’s Main Street and end at the park. Individuals, groups or businesses still have plenty of time to register and participate in the parade.

After the parade visitors can head into the park for live entertain, vendor booths, horseshoe tournament, kid’s games all day. New this year will be a Cornhole Tournament that will be limited to 40 teams and open to all ages. Registration will begin after the parade and tournament will start at 12:00 pm. Another new event added this year is a Fishing Tournament for the kids from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Knight Ideal Pond.
