The Emery Spartans continued the Region 15 golf season with a fifth place finish at the Carbon Country Club Golf Course Thursday afternoon in Price.
The North Sanpete Hawks gained ground on the entire field by taking home first place with a final score of 326. Grand finished in second with a 333, followed by Manti’s 341 and Richfield at 344. Emery edged out South Sevier and San Juan by two strokes with a 366.
Emery’s Oakley Toomer finished first individually with a 75, topping North Sanpete’s Avery Wade by one stroke. Toomer’s individual performance falls in line with a series of terrific outings during the 2018 campaign.
As the season reaches the home stretch the Spartans sit fifth overall, 14-strokes better than sixth place San Juan. Following North Sanpete’s first place performance, the Spartans now trail fourth place by 165-strokes.
The group of schools will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Taylorsville for the region finale at Meadow Brook. The qualifying teams will then turn their attention to the state championship tournament on Oct. 1 and 2 at the same course.
