The Emery Spartans boys cross country team clinched the Region 15 championship Tuesday afternoon at the Moab Golf Club.
Ending with a team score of 48 points, the Spartans easily defeated second place North Sanpete’s score of 59. Richfield finished in third with 64 points, followed by Grand with 76 and Manti with 132. San Juan and South Sevier rounded out the field of seven.
Bryar Meccariello paced the Spartans with a second place finish, completing the course in 16:21.9. Jess Christiansen came in seventh and McKay Meccariello followed in 10th. Chase Christiansen and Beau Cook added depth to Emery’s score by finishing in the top-20.
The Emery Lady Spartans took home a fourth place finish after accumulating 119 points. Grand finished at the top of the girl’s leaderboard with 38 points, followed by Richfield and San Juan. North Sanpete, Manti and South Sevier finished fifth, sixth and seventh.
Adaley Lester was the top performing Lady Spartans, finishing the race in 21:49.9. Carlie Bennett ended 15th overall, followed by Daicee Ungerman in 25th.
The Region 15 finale sets the stage for the upcoming 3A State Championship, which take place at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
