The Emery Lady Spartans suffered a season ending 4-0 loss to the Judge Memorial Bulldogs in the quarterfinals of the 3A State Championship Tournament Saturday afternoon in Salt Lake City.

Fighting the cold, fall temperatures, Emery was unable to break through the tough Judge Memorial defensive squad in the shutout defeat. The loss comes following a 4-1 win over Carbon in the opening round of the state tournament.

Trailing 2-0 at the end of the first half, the Lady Spartans slipped further behind as Judge found the back of the net twice in the final period. The loss marks only the second time Emery failed to score a goal this season.

Emery finishes the 2018 season with a record of 9-5-1, including a region mark of 4-3-1. The Lady Spartans qualified for the 3A State Tournament as the No. 3 seed from the highly competitive Region 15 division.

Judge will now move forward to move on to face the Juab Wasps in the quarterfinals of the state tournament. The winner will advance to meet either Morgan or Summit Academy for the championship on Oct. 20.
