PRICE – Utah State Eastern men’s basketball defeated the Northwest Trappers 67-53 on Saturday in Ephraim.

Unlike Friday’s 80-78 win over Western Wyoming, the Eagles remained in control for most of the game.

After the score was tied at 17-17, the Eagles would use their bench to build a strong double-digit lead over the Trappers.

In the second half it was still the Eagles in control as they would not let their lead get below eight points.

The Eagles got key contributions from sophomores Matija Novkovic and freshman Stevan Jeremic in the second half.

They would both score a combined 15 points along with 10 rebounds in the game.

Finishing the game as the leading scorer was freshman point guard Blaze Nield with 13 points. He also had five assists, a steal and a rebound in 30 minutes of action.

The Eagles are now 2-0 after the first weekend of regular season games, something they haven’t done since the beginning of the 2015-2016.

Up next for USU Eastern is two games at home next weekend. They will take on Western Wyoming on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and then Eastern Arizona on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Both games next weekend will be broadcasted on the Scenic West Digital Network and the USU Eastern YouTube channel.
