Playing in three games in three days, the Carbon Lady Dinos finished 1-2 at the Fruita Invitational this past weekend in Colorado.

After opening up the tournament with a 39-31 win over Central High School, Carbon suffered back-to-back losses by a combined five points to end the tournament. The three-game stretch drops the team’s overall record to 5-2 on the season.

Playing the first of three straight games at the Fruita Invitational, the Lady Dinos entered the break trailing 19-15. Carbon upped the pressure defensively, holding Central to just 12 points in the second half to rally for the win.

Cora Lamborn scored a season-high 13 points to help the Carbon offense. While the Lady Dinos converted just 10 field goals, they managed to go 17-23 at the charity stripe in the victory.

Jordan Bianco continued to show efficiency on the offensive side of the ball with eight points. Abbie Saccomanno chipped in with six and Jodi Noyes finished with five.

Returning to the court on Friday Carbon let a fourth quarter lead slip away in their first loss of the season, falling to Grand Junction 32-30.

Carbon failed to score double-digits in any of the four quarters as both teams displayed stellar defense. Holding a 26-23 lead entering the fourth, Carbon was held to just four points in the final eight minutes.

Bianco led the team in scoring with 12 points, nine of which came from beyond the three-point line. Abbie Saccomanno and Jodi Noyes chipped in with six, while Brenna Tabone ended with four.

Unable to end the weekend trip on a positive the Lady Dinos dropped the third and final game of the tournament Saturday afternoon, this time to Fruita Monument 36-33.

Locked in a neck and neck battle throughout Carbon shot just 1-5 from the free throw line as the team dropped to 5-2 on the season. One-point separated the two teams in every quarter except the third, which favored Fruita by three.

Despite the loss Carbon’s Jodi Noyes recorded a double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jordan Bianco also reached double figures with 10.

With the final non-region weekend tournament complete, the Lady Dinos will now open up Region 14 play Tuesday evening at home against Juab. Region action will continue for Carbon on Thursday against Providence Hall.
