Unable to keep pace with the Juab Wasps, the Carbon High School boy’s basketball team suffered a 52-40 loss in the Region 14 opener Wednesday night on the road.

Tied 16-16 at the end of the first half, the Dinos fell of pace after being outscored 19-8 in the third quarter.

Carbon senior Derek Hillam finished with a game-high 20 points and 18 rebounds in the setback. Braxton Bennett finished with nine points and Ty Anderson chipped in with seven.

While Carbon played even with Juab from the field the biggest discrepancy came from the free throw line. The Dinos connected on only 6-of-15 attempts, while Juab finished 22-29.

Zac Cowan led the Wasps with 14 points, while both Easton Wright and Kollin Robertson scored 10. Ty Allred helped a balanced attack with nine points.

Now 1-6 on the season the Dinos will look to end a three-game losing skid when they return to the court on Friday against Maeser Prep on the road. Live coverage of Friday’s game will begin 6:30 on KRPX 95.3 the Peak, followed by tip-off at 7:00 p.m..
