The Emery High School boy’s basketball team delivered a victory in the highest scoring contest in the 3A classification this season, topping American Heritage 96-81 Wednesday night in American Fork.

Developing several lengthy leads throughout the game, the Spartans were pressed late by a pesky American Heritage squad. Timely free throw shots and key defensive stops late secured the win for the Spartans, who moved to 5-1 with the win.

“Offensively they gave us a little bit of pressure and we did a really good job of taking the ball to the basket,” said senior Kyson Stilson. “We hit a lot of open shots tonight and that obviously helps out a lot.”

Stilson proved his dominance on the offensive side of the ball netting a game-high 38 points. Brax Jensen helped pace the production with 20, while Rance Jensen scored all nine of his points from the three-point line.

The win marks the third straight for the Spartans, who have now won four of five matchups by double-digits.

With only two non-region games remaining before the league opener on Dec. 21, Emery will return to the Spartan Center on Friday to meet Grantsville at 7:00 p.m.. The next two games will take place on the road, beginning with South Summit on Monday.
