Eva L Martinez, age 80, passed away January 4, 2019 at her home in Helper while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 13, 1938 in Toltic, Colorado to John O. and Emma Gonzales Espinoza.

Eva truly was a coal miners daughter and she was extremely proud of that. As a child she lived in a number of coal mining camps until they formed their home in Helper, Utah. Eva graduated high school in Pueblo, Colorado. Eva’s greatest joy was her family. She had four children, Debra, Rick, Joey, Mike. Eva and Bernell began their life together in 1965. They married on Valentine ’s Day in 1975. Eva wore many hats during her career. She was an amazing seamstress at Koret of California. She owned Joey’s Café in Helper, and was very proud of owning her own business. Eva was a huge part in raising her grandchildren.

Survived by her husband, Bernell Martinez, Helper; daughter, Debra Sanchez, Helper; son, Rick (Patti) Sanchez, Richfield, son, Mike Valdez, Price; brother, Johnny (Erlinda) Espinoza; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma Espinoza; son, Joey John Sanchez; grandson, Stephen Zele.

Funeral Mass, Thursday, January 10, 2019, 10:00 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation, Wednesday evening, 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a family service beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday and Thursday one hour prior to service at Mitchell’s. Committal, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
