Karen Staker Leonard, age 76, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019 at her home while surrounded by her family.

She was born April 17, 1942 in Albany, California to Byron Wilford and Rachael Jones Staker. Married Larry Kimball Leonard July 28, 1961 in the Manti Temple.

Karen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in numerous church callings; Relief Society President, Young Women’s President, Primary and Ward Organist and she also served with her husband as a work service missionary for 2 years teaching the addiction recovery program to inmates in the Carbon County Jail. Karen’s favorite calling was serving with her husband as an ordinance worker at the Manti Temple for 6 years. Karen was blessed with an abundance of pure love of Christ, which she generously gave to all she met. Throughout her battle with Alzheimer’s disease and oral cancer her faith never wavered. She drank the bitter cup and did not shrink. Karen was one who was truly without guile.

After raising her children she went back to college and completed her degree in education from Utah State University and taught for 12 years at Wellington Elementary. One of the highlights of her education experience was attending classes with her daughter Monica. Karen had a great love of teaching. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Leonard, Price; daughter, Monica (Brent) Pettit, Cedar Hills, Utah; son, Shawn (Brandi) Leonard, Price; grandchildren, Ian Cook, Rachael Crouch, Camille Gerber, Dallen Cook, Jillian Pettit, McKenna Leonard and Beckham Leonard; great-grandson, Rylan Crouch; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Staker, Centerville.
