Jim Rob Nelson (J.R.), age 37, passed away unexpectedly in an auto accident on January 11, 2019. He was born October 9, 1981 in Price, Utah to Jim and Robyn (Butler) Nelson.

J.R. grew up in Wellington. He attended Wellington Elementary, Mont Harmon Junior High and graduated from Carbon High School in 2000. As a child J.R. enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. During his three years at Carbon High he played the power forward position for the Dinos. In later years he enjoyed playing games of men’s softball with his friends. During his junior year he met his high school sweetheart Janell Cook and they were married in Helper, Utah on August 24, 2002. They were blessed with three children. Claire, Bella and Gavin.

J.R. was employed with UPS. During his daily routes he looked forward to interacting with his customers. He made great friendships with his fellow UPS co-workers. J.R. enjoyed camping with his family and friends. The Butler Reunion became one of his favorite camping trips each summer. Whether in the mountains or at home, JR would hop on his 4-wheeler and take his kids for a ride. He loved driving way too fast on his Kawasaki 700. Watching the UFC fights became a great favorite of his.

J.R. and his son Gavin were the Ultimate Gamers on Xbox. One of his many joys in life was being able to watch Claire and Bella play soccer, travel softball, basketball, dance and tumbling.

He loved to work on his vehicles and had great mechanical abilities. When he needed expertise, he would call on his dad. He took great pride in how his truck looked. J.R. and his mom had an unshakeable bond. She will miss their daily talks.

J.R. was a jokester at heart and always loved giving everyone a hard time. Although he loved to joke, he had the most sensitive and tender heart. His bear hugs will be missed.

J.R. is survived by his wife Janell, children Claire, Bella and Gavin; loving parents Jim & Robyn; sister Valerie (Cody) Lupo; father & mother-in-law Van & Laura Cook; brother-in-law Tony (Candice) Cook; nieces & nephews: Makayla, Rylan & Preslee Lupo; Shontae, Mason & Kenzlee Cook. grandparents; Dennis & Shirley Barker. And an overwhelming abundance of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by grandparents Bob & Garna Butler & Harold & Ruth Nelson; cousins Billie Joe Butler & Joshua Jorgensen.

Funeral service Wednesday, January 16, 2019, 11:00 a.m., Wellington Stake Center (935 East Main) in Wellington.  Visitation, Tuesday evening, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home and at the church Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Wellington City Cemetery.
