The Active Re-Entry Youth Program is a group for youth of all disabilities between the ages 8 years old and 24 to learn important independent living skills.

“The program offers an opportunity for peer support, we’re also helping build self-confidence for themselves. We teach all sorts of cooking skills, budgeting skills – whatever they really want,” said Youth Coordinator, Chris Haycock. Most of the activities are a great way to teach students independent living skills, plus increase their communication and socialization skills.

The Youth Program meets twice a month once in Carbon County and once in Emery County while the youth are in school. In the summer, they meet at least once a week, sometimes twice a week. “Transportation is provided through Active Re-Entry, it’s a door to door service. So I can pick them up at their home, take them to the activity and then take them back home,” stated Haycock. Summertime consists of many outdoor activities such as frisbee golf, fishing, hiking, swimming, kayaking, arts & crafts, bowling, golf and much more.

Students ages 16 to 24 years old are given an opportunity to attend the State Leadership Conference in June. This conference is held at Utah State University in Logan, Utah and is hosted by the Utah Statewide Independent Living Council and the six Independent Living Center in the State.
