The community is invited to celebrate the Chinese New Year at Helper’ First Friday event on February 1 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The event takes place on Helper’s historic main street in all of the local shops, restaurants and galleries.

“This First Friday’s theme is going to be Chinese New Year and the galleries will be open, there will be drinks in the gallery, there will be food in the galleries. So, come on up, there will also be live music and entertainment I’m sure in the galleries and the Balance Rock Restaurant,” stated Boxcar Gallery co-owner, Thomas Williams. There will be Chinese lanterns lining the streets as art enthusiasts make their way thru the various galleries to discover the many talented artists in the area.

A special guest is scheduled to be in attendance at the Boxcar Gallery located at 147 South Main Street. “At First Friday is going to be really big for Boxcar Gallery, and David and I because we are bringing Wendy Newman in. Wendy Newman is probably one of the best female jewelers on the art market and art circuit today. We finally talked her into leaving her little studio there in Moab and coming to see us and doing a show for us,” stated Williams. All her pieces are one-of-a-kind and fabricated from sheet and wire. She loves to work in sterling silver and 18k gold.

There will be a fun kids activity planned at Three Little Llamas Toys & Gifts which is located at 208 South Main Street. Children will have the opportunity to make a colorful dragon portrait out of cupcake liners and because it’s business’s one-year anniversary they will be serving red velvet cupcakes for guests to enjoy while children make their projects. The Helper Hub will be hosting a Chinese New Year Dragon contest from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The winner will receive $40.00 cash and a one of a kind First Friday mug.
