The Emery Spartans picked up a region victory at the Spartan Center on Friday night 85-63 against the North Sanpete Hawks. With only three games left before the post-season, the Spartans shook off the losses against Richfield and Manti and took care of business at home.

The Spartans came out in the first quarter and kept pace with the Hawks leading by four points at the end of one, they pushed it to a 10 point lead by halftime. The Spartans put forth a balanced attack with four players scoring in double figures and 70% shooting from the free throw line.

Friday night was about Brodie Tuttle.  The senior had 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting which included 6-of -9 from downtown. Junior Kyler Wilstead had 19 points, and senior Kyson Stilson dropped in 18 points going a perfect 12 out of 12 from the free throw line. Rance Jensen also filled the stat sheet grabbing nine rebounds and five points.

Junior Scott Hatch led the Hawks with 26 points and five rebounds, and senior Tyler Hadley with eight. It was a rough night shooting for North Sanpete  shooting 56% from the free throw line and just 41% from the field.  The Hawks managed just 15 points down the stretch in the fourth quarter and were simply out gunned by Emery.

The Spartans needed the win to keep pace in a tough Region 15 and made  up some ground on a night where Richfield and South Sevier both lose, two teams that are ahead of them in league standings. Emery (13-6, 5-5 in region)  now has just three games left at Grand (13-6, 4-6 in region), San Juan (13-6, 5-5 in region) and a non region game against Green River. The first time the Spartans played Grand this year was a victory for Emery 81-70 and the game against San Juan ended in a 105-100 loss for the Spartans.
