The Carbon Lady Dinos’ championship run came to an end with a 51-27 loss to the Richfield Wildcats in the quarterfinals of the 3A State Championship Tournament Thursday night at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.

Despite a slow start in the opening quarter, the Lady Dinos trailed by just eight points entering the second stanza. Richfield pulled away for good by going on a 16-4 run to end the first half, putting Carbon in a massive hole.

Senior Abbie Saccomanno finished with a team best seven points to lead the Lady Dinos in the setback. Jodi Noyes scored six points and grabbed six rebounds while playing in limited action due to foul trouble.

As a team Carbon struggled from the field, converting just 23-percent of their shots on a 9-38 performance. Unable to spark the offensive from the perimeter, the team ended 2-13 from deep.

Alexa Lord paced the potent Richfield offensive attack with 23 points to go along with three blocks on the defensive side of the court. Jarica Steck contributed eight points and both Jacee Albrecth and Sipola Vakautakakala scored six.

The win for Richfield moves the team into the semifinals Friday afternoon against the Grantsville Cowboys.

While Thursday’s loss ends the chance of winning a state championship, the season will continue for the Lady Dinos in the consolation bracket.

Carbon Will square off with the South Sevier Rams at 11:10 a.m. Friday morning at the Sevier Valley Center.

A win would place the Lady Dinos in the fifth/sixth place game against Morgan or Judge Memorial Saturday morning. A loss would bring the 2018-19 season to a close.

Live coverage of Friday’s consolation game will begin at 10:40 on KRPX 95.3 The Peak. Live audio will also be available at castlecountryradio.com and on the KRPX radio app.
