The Carbon Dinos track and field teams earned second place finishes at the Old Capital Invitational Saturday afternoon in Fillmore.

Competing against 11 other schools, the Carbon boy’s team finished with 103 points, just five total behind first place Delta. Millard ended in third with 102, followed by Juab and North Sanpete.

The Lady Dinos also finished by Delta, finishing with 139 points, 15 shy of of first place. Millard ended in third with 111, followed by a distant Rowland Hall with 50. Gunnison and North Sevier tied for fifth with 36 points.

Carson Frame continued perform at a top level for the boy’s team, again finishing first in the long jump. Frame later combined with Jared Spendlove, Jacob Jewkes and Kobe Cruz to finish first in the 4X400 with a time of 3:44.55.

Michael Banasky’s metric throw of 41.35 was enough for second place in the javelin. Banasky also finished second at the Red Rocks Invitational on March 9 in Moab.

Spendlove contributed several points for the Dinos, earning a third place nod in the 800 and 1600 meters. Ryan Page and James Bryner finished behind Spendlove in the 1600, giving Carbon places third through fifth. Bryner and Page later ended third and fourth in the 3200 meters.

Tacie Tapia and Marianna Molinar led the Lady Dinos with first place finishes in the field events. Tapia topped the field in the long jump, while Molinar earned the top launch in the javelin.

Depth scoring also helped the girl’s team as a total of seven second-places finishes added to the point total.

Grace Broadbear finished third behind teammate Makenna Blanc in the 800 meters, but finished second in the 1600. Megan Swasey also ended second in both the 100 meter hurdles and the long jump. Emma Haddock earned a second-place finish in the 3200 meters.

The Carbon track and field team will continue the season with the first of two home meets this Saturday with the Carbon Invitational. The second, The Farm Bureau Classic, will take place Saturday, April 13.
