The Carbon Lady Dinos now face a 26-stroke deficit in the Region 14 standings following a second place finish at the Sunset View Golf Course Tuesday afternoon in Delta.

Finishing with a team score of 423, Carbon finished in a distant second behind Providence Hall’s 395. Delta ended in third with a 444, followed by Juab’s 492. Union and Maeser Prep rounded out the field of six teams.

“We took one on the chin today as Providence Hall snuck one in on us,” said head coach Kenji Otani. “We are down, but far from out. Some good things did happen today.”

Splitting the first two meets of the season with Providence Hall, the Lady Dinos carried a two-stroke lead into the meet. Three of the four Providence golfers delivered scores under 100, while Carbon struggled to find consistency in scores two-through-four.

Jordan Bianco delivered the medalist round of the afternoon finishing with an outstanding 94. Rhiannon Timmons was next on the team with a 104, followed by Jessica Hansen’s 108. Kirsten Etzel’s score of 117 was the fourth total added to the team’s final tally.

“It wasn’t the outcome we wanted, but it think we’ll be better because of it,” said Otani. “Jessica and Kirsten learned hot to grind it out. Plus, only having four our varsity players, they all learned to play with a little more pressure.”

Three meets into the season the Dinos now sit comfortably in second place, but trail Providence by 26-strokes. Region 14 play will continue on Thursday, March 28 at Canyon Hills, the home course for the Juab Wasps.
