An explosive seventh inning lifted the Carbon Dinos past the Providence Hall Patriots 15-7 in the Region 14 opener Tuesday afternoon in Herriman.

Despite holding a comfortable 7-3 lead in the sixth inning, Providence Hall scored four runs to tie the game entering the final frame. Carbon responded by scoring eight runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead for good.

Braxton Bennett earned the win on the mound after pitching a solid five innings, allowing just two earned runs and six hits, while striking out eight. Adrien Sanchez, Collin Lewis and Nathan Richens all worked in relief to help Carbon preserve the win.

Offensively the Dinos out hit Providence Hall 17-10, while also recording seven extra base hits. Carbon also performed well at the plate with runners in scoring position, tallying 14 RBIs in the win.

Senior Ty Anderson finished 2-5 with a team high two triples to go along with three RBIs. Braxton Bennett launched three singles in five at bats, also bringing in three runs. Kaleb Nelson ended 2-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Carbon and Providence Hall will complete the season series with a second match up Friday afternoon in Helper. Holding a record of 2-4 overall on the season, the Dinos will have an opportunity to a log a series sweep heading into the second week of region action.
