Carbon School District’s preschool program is filling up quickly this spring and administrators are urging parents who want to enroll their three or four-year-old in the program to move quickly.

“The Creekview Elementary program is already full for next year,” said Beverly Martinez, Carbon School District Preschool Coordinator. “However, there is still room at Sally Mauro, Wellington, and Bruin Point.”

There is no preschool held at Castle Heights Elementary because of space restrictions placed on the building by an already large K-5 population of students.

The tuition to put a child in the program is $50 per month for the three-year-old program and $70 a month for the four year old program. The school day for preschool students is two hours, which gives young children the opportunity for a school experience with other kids without interfering with important parent-child time at home.

“Children who succeed in school and in life know how to find solutions to problems. They can communicate and work well with others, and they know how to learn. High quality preschool programs help kids build these skills.” said Martinez.

Other than Carbon District there are also other private preschools in the area in which children can be enrolled as well. In some instances, the school district provides special services, such as speech therapy, for children in need in those schools too. In addition, Head Start also offers a preschool program for low income families.

The Utah State Legislature also funds an on-line preschool program called UPSTART for children the year before they enter kindergarten, UPSTART is a great supplement to a high-quality preschool program, and is free of charge. Parents can enroll on-line at waterfordupstart.org

“The way we look at it all the students that go through either our preschool or private preschools or Head Start are all our Carbon School District students, and we want them to succeed,” stated Martinez. “The majority of these children come to our school later so it is important for them to get the early development skills and education they need at this early age.
