PRICE – Utah State Eastern Baseball lost their road series against the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes 4-0 in Henderson on Friday and Saturday.

Coming off last weekend’s four losses against Salt Lake, USU Eastern opened the series against CSN with a great performance in game one.

The Eagles lost the game 1-0 with the lone run coming off a wild pitch in the first inning.

Freshman pitcher Karter Pope gave up three hits and three walks with three strikeouts in five innings of work for the Eagles. Sophomore Hunter Porritt finished the game on the mound for the Eagles and did not give up a hit or run.

“When we played CSN our pitching and defense did a great job of keeping us in ball games. They did an outstanding job of pitching out of trouble and making big pitches when they needed to,” said USU Eastern Head Coach Scott Madsen.

The Eagles would lose game two on Friday by a score of 5-0.

On Saturday the Eagles would fall to the Coyotes 10-0 in game three and 13-5 in game four.

Freshman infielder Briggs Newman led the Eagles at the plate in the series with six hits.

“He has been one of the more consistent bats in our lineup.  We have leaned on him and he has done a great job of putting the ball in play.  He has seen some quality pitching and continues to have quality at bats,” said Madsen.

The Eagles now sit at 1-15 overall and 0-8 in conference play.

“We are taking our licks, but learning from each one.  We have played one of the toughest schedules in the league.  To start with two top 20 teams back to back is just that much harder. I feel like the team is showing better and better with each game,” said Madsen.

The Eagles will head back on the road this upcoming Thursday to take on the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.

USU Eastern will play a doubleheader on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday against CSI.

“CSI has an extremely talented team and always plays tough at their place.  The players are hungry to get a win and will continue to put in hard work to get there.  I believe that if we continue to get better each week, we will be in a good position to make a run,” said Madsen.

Friday’s games begin at 1 p.m. and Saturday’s begin at noon.

All four games will be broadcasted on the Scenic West Digital Network at scenicwestnetwork.com.
