By Daryn Mason, Castle Country Sports Radio:

Three first half goals secured the win for the Emery Spartans as they beat the South Sevier Rams 3-1 in a Region 15 thriller Thursday afternoon in Monroe.

Scoring three goals by the end of the first half, the Spartans managed to earn the win despite being outscored in the second.

Brock Winter found the back of the net twice to lead the Spartans to the win. Ibrahim Abdul-Halim also logged a goal to make up the scores for Emery in the opening half.

With only four games left in region play, the Spartans remain in a chase for the region championship. Thursday’s win puts Emery at 4-1-1 in league play, just one game behind Grand in the loss column.

Emery will return to the field Tuesday in Castle Dale as they take on the North Sanpete Hawks for the second time. The Spartans tied with North Sanpete in the first meeting of the season back on March 14.
