The Carbon School District’s Spring Break is quickly approaching and it has students at Mont Harmon Middle School busy preparing to get caught up on any missing assignments or tests before the weeklong break of April 15 through April 19.

This week the school started a portion of the end of the year testing with students. “We started Monday and we jump right into it heavy when we come back. So, we’re telling the parents, telling the kids, take a little break, refresh yourselves, come back because it’s a push from now until schools out. It is crazy,” said Principal Seth Allred. Parents should understand the importance of attendance after Spring Break because the remainder of the end of the year testing will commence upon their student’s return plus it will be midterm for the fourth quarter. Students are scheduled to return to school on Monday, April 22.

The school has had some special guests visit the school this week. “We’re busing our fifth graders up to Mont Harmon the next two days. We’re going to let them get around the school, let them see what’s going on during school time and show them the schedules and where their classes are, get to meet their teachers a little bit. Open it up and really relieve some of that anxiety of that move from fifth to sixth grade,” said Principal Allred. Parents of fifth graders will be given the opportunity during parent/teacher conference to participate in the Pirate Treasure Hunt which allows for them to become familiar with the inner workings of the school.

Spring extracurricular activities at the school are in full swing with the school archery team headed to nationals this year.  “We need to celebrate our archery team, had another state title with our archery team – that’s back to back with them. They’re getting ready to go to nationals coming up here in a couple of weeks. Tom with his archery team and the score, they actually placed higher than they’ve ever placed. They had the highest score that’s ever been scored with a middle school team. We’re just proud of what is going on,” said Principal Allred. The school track team is in the middle of their season with their next meet taking place at Emery High on April 26 and will finish off the season with an invitational at Carbon High school on May 17.
