The Carbon Dinos snapped a three-game losing skid with an 11-3 win over the Emery Spartans Monday afternoon in a non-region tilt in Castle Dale.

Meeting for the only time this season, the two teams were locked in a scoreless tie entering the fifth inning. Carbon then took advantage of multiple Emery errors to take a commanding 6-0 lead. The Dinos added five more runs in the following two innings to preserve the win.

“This feels great because we’ve all been struggling a lot as a team, so it just feels good to come out with a win,” said Carbon senior shortstop Ty Anderson. “We’ve been in a slump. Some days we are great in aspects, but we haven’t been able to put a full game together.”

Collin Lewis earned the win on the mound as the Dinos used a pitcher-by-committee approach. A total of four pitchers saw time on the mound with Keaton Rich, Braxton Bennett and Lewis all throwing two innings. Kaleb Nelson also worked one inning of relief.

Emery senior Cade Brazier was tagged with the loss, despite throwing four innings of scoreless ball. Brazier allowed six hits and two earned runs, while fanning six batters. Logan Healy pitched 1.2 frames in relief, allowing three hits and one earned run.

Carbon combined for nine hits, all from nine different players. Rich and Lewis both brought in two runs from the plate, and also accumulated one double a piece in the process. The win gives Carbon a bright spot heading into next week’s monumental series with Juab.

“It’s going to put a lot of momentum moving into next Tuesday with Juab,” said Anderson. “That’s the biggest game we’ve had all year. They are hot and hitting the crap out of the ball. All we have to do is put a stop to that.”

The loss for Emery snaps a four-game winning streak that dates back to the first game of April. After logging season-series sweeps over San Juan and South Sevier, the Spartans have positioned themselves for a second-place finish in the Region 15 standings.

Held to just five hits the Spartans failed to record a single RBI in the loss. Brax Jensen logged the team’s lone extra base hit with a double. Kyson Stilson, Riggs Griffin, Rance Jensen and Eli Beagley all logged singles in the setback.

Emery will participate in one more non-region contest on Tuesday against American Leadership Academy, before taking an extended pause for Spring Break. Tuesday’s game in Castle Dale is set for a 3:30 start.
