The Carbon High School football program will begin summer workouts on Wednesday, May 29, which will kick-off a string of events leading up to the start of the season on Aug. 16.

Entering year five under head coach Josh Huntsman, the Dinos have developed stability within the program. For a team that went through five coaches in a decade, the comfort of consistency is something that has been a pleasant change of pace.

“We let those seniors go this year and that was the first group that has had the same coach all four years in quite awhile,” said head coach Josh Huntsman. “It was pretty exciting watching them go through last season and seeing the accomplishments and strides they made. It’s a good time to be around the program.”

Fresh off of the most successful season since 2000, Carbon will look to build on the momentum established in 2018. The road to a successful 2019 has already gotten underway with the winter and spring weight lifting program.

Summer weight lifting and field work will get under way for the program on May 29 and will continue through June 30. This will mark a crucial time for the program as far as preparation for the upcoming season.

Workouts will begin at 6:30 a.m. and run until 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday’s. Wednesday will be reserved for team building exercises beginning at 6:00 p.m..

“I like handing out gear early, so we’ll hand out gear, get it put in lockers and get going,” said Huntsman. “We’re looking at lifting weights on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Wednesday night we’ll have an activity that might not even be football related. We’re just going to try to make this summer as fun as possible.”

Carbon will also take part in the annual Ute Shoot event, which is a seven-on-seven camp at the University of Utah, on June 1. The following week the team will take 20 players to Blanding for another seven-on-seven on June 8.

The off-season workouts will continue with Camp Carbon on July 11-through-19. The week will feature a combination of no contact and full contact practice.
