Jamal Willis will host two camps in Price June 8 on the campus of USUE. Willis played for LaVell Edwards at Brigham Young University and then went on to play for the San Francisco 49er’s of the NFL.

In his three years at BYU Willis ran for 3,148 yards on 623 carries, he also scored 35 touchdowns all for Coach Edwards. Willis was a guest recently  on Drive Time Sports, when asked how much inspiration he drew from his former coach Willis replied,” You know I draw a lot, especially from a coaching aspect, I think more or less there is a different type of coaching style, I love teaching, and I take sports seriously but it’s not life or death.”

He will be offering camps on speed and agility and will then hold a running back academy in the afternoon.

The speed and agility camp is for boys and girls ages 7-18 and is focused on athletes from all sports. “ I work on three areas, their foot speed , hand speed / arm speed, and hip agility.” Willis went on to add,”Quickness can be developed a lot quicker than speed, speed has so much with dynamics and strength, but quickness is about technique.”

After the speed and agility camp Willis will host a running back academy. This camp will deal directly with ball carriers and is for ages 7-18 also. It will focus on ball skills, jukes and footwork and how to set blocks. Willis stated, “ When I can help kids to understand it’s not a lineman’s job to open holes it’s the running back, you’ve gotta have movement, you’ve gotta move your feet, you’ve gotta have body positioning.”

The cost for both camps is $75 each. For more information or to register for either of the camps call (801) 427-3055 or email wemakeplays@yahoo.com.
