The Carbon County Search and Rescue Demolition Derby is fast approaching and registration is now open. The derby is set to take place in conjunction with the annual Carbon County Fair celebration on Saturday, August 10 at the Carbon County Fairgrounds.

“We are just over two months away from the derby. It’s that month, that’s a pivotal month if you register by the end of June you get a discount,” said Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood. Currently, the cost to register a vehicle is $25.00 till June 28 and then after it will go up to $50.00 per vehicle.

Any interested drivers may visit Tire King located at 535 East Main Street in Price to register. “You know go down to Tire King see Elsie and the gang down there. They’ll give you the rules, they’ll hook you up on the board – put you on the board, take your money for the registration,” said Sheriff Wood. Drivers will be able to obtain a copy of the derby rules which can also be found on the Carbon County Search and Rescue Facebook page.

There are several classes that drivers can choose to be entered in. “The same five classes as last year, we’ve got the minis, we got the mini vans and mini trucks – that’s a crazy class, the full-size truck class, 80s and newer, and the crazy misfits,” stated Sheriff Wood. The number of classes is a way to get a variety of cars and drivers to make up a spectacular event.

New this year will be a unique award given out as Sheriff Wood explains, “This year I’ve done a new challenge a new thing; if you look at Carbon County Demolition Derby on YouTube, you’ll see our rollover that we had a couple of years ago. So this year we’re going to give a trophy to the recipient – if someone gets rolled over they’ll get a roll over trophy.”

The annual derby is the only way the Carbon County Search and Rescue generates funds for operation so they are planning on having a great show this year and are excited for it to be taking place during the county fair.
