The Helper American Legion squad took two games from visiting Roosevelt at Ernie Gardner Field on Wednesday night. The first game was hotly contested as Helper came out on top 17-15. Game two saw Helper get a 5-2 victory.

In game one, after three innings Helper was ahead 11-2. They would then go on to give up six runs in the top of the fourth with Cody Lowe on the mound, Zac Bradley when come in to relive Lowe with the score 11-8. In the fifth inning Helper would give up another seven runs to go down 15-11. Nate Richens would come in to pitch in the fifth inning with one out and was successful in getting them out of the inning. Helper would go on to score four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score 15 all. In the sixth with two outs Ty Anderson would hit a double that would score Anthony Jones and Jordan Fossat.

Richens would then come back to close out the game and secure the victory. “He threw lots of strikes and kept hitters off balance, he got outs and that’s what I needed him to do” said manager Dakota Cisneros.

Anderson would finish the game 3-5 with three doubles, a walk and three runs scored, as well as the go ahead RBI. Rylan Hart was 5-6 registering five singles and three runs scored. Cody Lowe went 4-5 with two singles, two triples, a walk with three runs scored and three RBI’s. Anthony Jones was 2-3 with two singles, two walks, three runs scored and two RBI’s.

Game two was not so high scoring. As the first game was the only league game they played, Cisneros took the second game as a chance to give some younger players time on the field.

Roosevelt scored two runs in the third inning to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Helper would go on to score three runs in the fourth and add two more in the sixth. Dallen O’Neil walked three times and scored twice. Jaxon Carlisle would strike out six through four innings to get the win on the mound. Kade Dimick would take over in relief in the fifth and go three innings with four strike outs and allowing only one hit in the 5-2 victory.

Helper was scheduled to play Pleasant Grove on the road Saturday but due to a conflict the game will now be played on Monday at 7 p.m. at Gardner Field in Helper.
