The Helper Merchants extended their winning streak to six with back-to-back victories over Westlake Saturday evening at Ernie Gardner Field in Helper.

Playing in front of the home crowd for the first team in a week, the Merchants fired on all cylinders offensively earning a 11-1 win in the first game of the double-header. A defensive gem propelled Helper in the second contest to a 4-0 win.

“We found ways on the base paths to put some pressure on Westlake’s defense” said manager Dakota Cisneros. “By stealing some bases and capitalizing on some hit and runs, it worked out in our favor.”

Zac Bradley pitched a complete game shutout in the first contest of the evening. Allowing just two hits, Bradley struck out two batters and allowed just one earned run as the game was called in the fifth inning.

Cody Lowe continued to crush the ball at the plate as he finished 2-3 with a single, double, three RBIs and a stolen base. Anthony Jones chipped in with a 1-3 effort, registering three RBIs. Jordan Fossat ended 2-2 with two singles, while scoring two runs.

Nathan Richens kept Westlake under control in the second game of the double-header with a seven-inning shutout. Allowing just five hits throughout Richens fanned four batters in the win.

Lowe once again delivered at the plate as he finished 2-3, while knocking his fifth home run of the season. Jones ended a perfect 2-2 with a single, double and a walk.

“Anthony (Jones) and Cody (Lowe) are without a doubt our two most consistent hitters right now,” Cisneros said following the win. “I’ve been very pleased with their production at the plate.”

The two wins move Helper to 6-0 in division play and 9-1 overall. The team has yet to lose a game in the state of Utah this season.

“These were two more great wins for us back at home in front of our home crowd,” Cisneros continued. “We’re hoping to keep this hot streak rolling into this coming week.”

Up next Helper will travel to Timpanogos for a double-header on Wednesday, beginning at 5:15 p.m.. The next home contest will take place Saturday against Lone Peak in more double-header action, beginning at 6:00 p.m..
