The Utah Coal Country Strike Team will award two $25,000 grants to Carbon and Emery School Districts to help fund quality computer and information technology courses at the high school level. These funds, which will be applied to the state-endorsed IT Pathways initiative, are a first step in a multi-year process to help diversify the economies and raise incomes in Utah’s Coal Country.

The Strike Team has been working closely with the superintendents of both school districts, Utah State University Eastern and Silicon Slopes to expand technology training in the region. Both school districts have expressed a need to train teachers as a prerequisite for expanding their classroom offerings, enabling them to teach greater numbers of students going forward.

School district Superintendents Lance Hatch and Larry Davis and Mayors Mike Kourianos and Danny Van Wagoner of Price City and Castle Dale will be present to accept the awards from the University of Utah.

The event will take place on Monday July 22, at 12:30pm in the Castle Dale Courthouse (95 East Main Street, Castle Dale, Utah 84513). Media are invited to attend and ask questions. Please feel free to follow up directly with any questions or concerns.
