The Carbon Dinos opened the golf season with a dominating performance as the team earned a 19-stroke victory over the competition Wednesday afternoon in Roosevelt, the site of this year’s 3A State Championship meet.

Fighting off the windy conditions the Dinos combined for a team score of 317, topping second place Richfield’s score of 336. Grand ended in third at 339, followed by Emery in a distant fourth at 398. South Sevier and San Juan rounded out the field of six as both finished with scores in the 400’s.

Nick Olson paced Carbon with an individual score of 77. Fellow senior Brady Gagon was next with a solid 79, followed by Kaden Slavenksy’s 80. Freshman Bode Salas contributed the fourth score as he delivered an 81.

Olson’s 77 put him at the top of the individual leaderboard in a tie with Richfield’s Jaren Anderson. Gagon’s 79 places him in a tie for third with Grand’s Luke Williams. Kaden Slavensky and Bode Salas are currently fifth and sixth.

Carbon will continue the Region 12 golf season with a trip to Richfield to play at Cove View on Wednesday, Aug. 7. The season will continue with a meet each week leading up to the State Championship on October 2 and 3.
