The Emery Lady Spartans soccer club opened up region play on the road in Moab against Grand High School on Tuesday coming home with a 5-0 victory.

The non-region part of the schedule was not kind to the Spartans who have been playing since early August going 1-5 in that stretch. A rough non-conference schedule has them ready to go against division competition.

Junior Alexis Winter lead the Spartans with two goals. Junior Sydney Stilson, sophomore Aspen Hansen and senior Sophie Huntington all scored one goal each for Emery, as a team they scored four goals in the first half. Senior Kiri Cook is credited with the shutout.

With the new RPI ranking system that was put in place this year every game counts so it will be interesting to see where teams will land when the initial polls come out on September 5th.

Up next for the Spartans (2-5 overall and 1-0 in region) is another road contest on Thursday against South Sevier. They will then take on the San Juan Broncos on Tuesday the 10th in Castle Dale, game time is set at 4 p.m..
