Generally, the Carbon County Sheriff weekly update is every Tuesday morning but this week as Sheriff Jeff Wood was making his way out to Castle Country Radio, he was called out on a high-speed chase out in the Wellington area.

“So, to kind of explain what that was all about, that was a high-speed chase, that was a stolen vehicle, that was coming out of, off the Nine Mile Road. Deputies found the vehicle and pursued it. It went out into the flats north of Wellington just in the sagebrush and washes and we were able to surround it. It was awesome to see all of our local law enforcement working together to put an end to that, it was over in about 30 minutes,” explained Sheriff Wood. The local law enforcement agencies that assisted in the pursuit were Carbon County, Price, Wellington, Helper, Adult Probation & Parole, and Utah Highway Patrol. It was nice to have so many resources readily available to assist in safely capturing the suspects. This is due to the many trainings that each agency participates in that allows the multiple agencies to work closely together.

The weather is changing quickly and with that comes colder weather up in the high country. “I talk about this every year in the fall and the spring, down here its 90 degrees and it’s warm but you get up on top of those mountains which are just a short side by side ride away for us the weather changes drastically as soon as the sun goes down to the point that it could be detrimental to you,” said Sheriff Wood. It’s important that when going on day excursions that you make sure you’re prepared if you had to stay overnight. Some items that individuals should have on hand are fire starting material, warm clothes to wear, a little bit of extra food and water.

As usual Sheriff Wood closed out his weekly update with a friendly reminder to local drivers, “I always like to mention to keep an eye out for the kids at the school bus stop, they’re not watching for you, you’ve got to watch for them, school is in full swing again.” Drivers are reminded that its 20 miles per hour in a school zone and 25 in most neighborhoods.
