The Carbon Lady Dinos have taken sole possession of first place in Region 12 with a 2-1 victory over the Emery Lady Spartans Tuesday afternoon at Carbon High School.

Entering Tuesday’s contest as the only two teams left unbeaten in Region 12 play, both teams battled throughout the contest. Carbon entered the break holding a 1-0 lead and managed to play even with the Spartans during the final half.

Jezmin Pettit and Kayla Barney each found the back of the net once to lead the Lady Dinos in victory. The win moves Carbon to 5-0 in region play, while also extending their nine on the season.

The loss for Emery ends a four game winning streak that began at the start of divisional play. With a marquee win over Richfield, the Lady Spartans still remain in the hunt for a region crown.

Carbon will return to the field on Thursday with a road contest against South Sevier. The tilt marks the second meeting of the season between the two teams. Carbon won the first on Sept. 3 9-0.

The Lady Spartans will also return to the field on Thursday, as they look to complete the season series sweep over the Grand Red Devils at home.
