The Pirates baseball team headed to Tropic on Wednesday, coming off of back-to-back losses in which they scored a combined six runs. In the game against the Bryce Valley Mustangs they would more than triple their offensive output winning 20-16.
In the month of September the Pirates have gone 3-5, with the season ending next Wednesday we will have to wait until then to see the latest RPI standings.
With their highest run total all season it was definitely a team effort with eight players scoring at least one run. Senior Weston Hatfield-Knight led the way with four runs on four hits and seven RBI’s. Senior Axel Anguiano added one run on three hits and four RBI’s and seniors Preston Marshall and Sam Corrigan each contributed two RBI’s a piece with Corrigan going yard with one home run. Junior Rad Hughes also had two hits with three RBI’s.
On the mound Corrigan went three innings giving up eight hits, six runs (three earned) while walking two and striking out two as well. Marshall goes two innings giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits walking one and striking out two and Anguiano gave them two innings of work surrendering four hits, two earned runs and striking out one.
On Friday the Pirates (5-11 overall and 4-7 in region) will travel to Panguitch (10-8 and 7-4), these two teams met before on September 4 with Green River coming out on the losing end 5-3. They will end the season on October 2 at Piute, both games are set to begin at 3 p.m..
