The Green River Pirate baseball team have had an up and down 2019 campaign. They have gone 5-13 overall, winning one of their last three. So when they took on Piute Wednesday in Junction, a 12-5 loss is probably not what they were looking for.

Piute jumped out early and never looked back. Scoring seven runs in the first, the Thunderbirds took the Pirates out of the game early.

Senior Axel Anguiano led the team with one run, two hits and two RBI’s. Senior Virgilio Mendoza and junior Payton Romero would add one run, one hit and one RBI each.

A trio of seniors would handle the mound for Green River. Sam Corrigan would go two innings giving up seven hits, seven earned runs with one walk and one strike. Preston Marshall gave them three innings of work surrendering seven hits, five earned runs while giving up one walk and striking out one, Anguiano would also go one inning giving up one hit.

The Pirates will face Bryce Valley in the first round of the state playoffs on Friday October 4. Green River has faced them twice in the regular season, winning both outings.

The game is set for 3:15 at Nelson Field in Spanish Fork.
