The Emery Ladies Soccer Club traveled to Salt Lake to take on Judge Memorial on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the 3A State Championship Tournament. In a re-match of a quarterfinal contest from last year the Spartans would fall 8-0 to the Bulldogs ending their 2019 campaign.

The Bulldogs came out fast scoring five goals in the first half. They were lead by sophomore Caeli Sherman who scored three goals in the game. Sophomore Lucy Callahan added two as did senior Sophia Ewing, junior Emily Gonzales-Trujillo added one more to round out the scoring. Judge will play defending State Champion Morgan next, the two teams faced off last year in the 3A Finals with Morgan winning 1-0.

The Spartans ended this season with a 10-8 overall record and 8-2 in region play, which earned them the #10 seed. In one stretch they would win eight-out-of-ten, including a 3-2 victory in the final game of the season against Region 12 champ Carbon. After receiving a first round bye , they went on the road and defeated the # 7 seed Grantsville 3-1 in the second round.

Emery will lose a total of nine seniors off of this squad for next year and will look to an encouraging group of underclassmen to lead the way. Sophomore Aspen Hansen and junior Alexis Winter will return hoping to get the Spartans back to the state playoffs.
