Joy (Johnston) Barton age 83 passed away on October 31, 2019 at Castleview Hospital in Price, UT. She was born November 24, 1935 to Ivan (Bud) Johnston and June Rowell in Moab, Utah.

Joy grew up in the Moab area and was especially proud of her cowgirl and ranching heritage having lived on ranches along the Colorado River, Castle Valley and the LaSal Mountains. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, family, friends and of course her pets. She was known to her grandchildren and many who were not her grandchildren as “Granny Joy”.  Mom was always a people person and regardless of where she lived she easily made many friends with folks from all walks of life.

Born to Joy was Randy (Kathy) Bowden-Castleton, Utah, Marty (Stacy) Mason-Castle Dale, Utah, Marcia Griswold-Aztec, New Mexico, Edmond “Shorty” Turner. She also raised and was very fond of three step-children Rick (Joy Ellan) Mason-Ephraim, Utah, Gina Farmer and Mark Mason.

She was preceded in death by Shorty, Gina and Mark as well as two grandchildren Dustin Ryan Bowden and Kennedy Joy Boss.

Along with being a homemaker Joy also owned and operated the Mode O’ Day clothing store for several years. She loved the outdoors especially family gatherings, fishing, and looking for arrowheads. Mom always had a soft spot for animals and folks that were down on their luck or just needed a friend. The more you knew her the more you loved her and she was often described as “one of a kind”.

A memorial service will be held Saturday November 9th at 11 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints meeting house at 400 North 200 West in Moab. There will be a luncheon following the service. Legacy Funerals & Cremations of Huntington is grateful to assist the Barton family. To express condolences please visit www.LegacyFunerals.com
