Lady Pirates basketball falls to Wayne on the road

The Green River Pirate basketball team traveled to Bicknell to take on the Wayne Badgers on Wednesday night. Wayne entered the contest at 5-5 ranked # 10 in the RPI and had won three of their last four. Down just six points at the half the Pirates couldn’t withstand a 20-6 run by the Badgers in the third and would lose their third game in five.

Wayne scored 22 points in the first and second quarters combined but would finish the game out scoring 40 points in the second half to secure the win.

Green River shot 16-of-34 from the field and 33% from behind the three point line and struggled to find scoring in the third quarter where they were only able to collect six points compared to the Badgers 20.

Talynn Lovato would lead all scores with 17 in the game for Green River. Morgan Bastian would collect seven and Abby Erwin and Brooquelyn Knight added four points each.

For the Badgers Allee Vandyke had 14 points in the victory. Hannah Williams scored 12 and Abby Stevens 10.

The Pirates are sitting at 5-7 and #14 in the RPI and will begin region play tonight against Whitehorse. Game time is set for 7 pm.
