This week’s Carbon School District weekly update shines the spotlight on the Castle Valley Center. The school’s students and faculty have settled in nicely with the new addition that has allowed them to have more space to accommodate the growing needs of the school.

“This just past year we’ve completed an addition, the school district and our school board worked together to provide this opportunity to have this addition come into our school, it began a year ago and was completed just before school started in the fall,” said Principal Michael Keller. The new construction brought in two new classrooms which has eliminated the need for outdoor modular classrooms, it also brought in much-needed restrooms and a brand-new multi-purpose room that will be utilized by the adult-aged students.

A small section of the lawn in front of the school has been converted into more parking spaces for parents and/or visitors. “Just this week we’ve completed a secure entrance as most of the schools have where you go through the secretary to get into the building during the school day,” said Principal Keller. This type of entrance promotes school safety for students and teachers.

After 40 plus years the school has decided it’s time to sell their trophy and plaque business which will allow another area within the school to be remodeled. “The time has come when it no longer really meets our mission and so we are going to sell that to someone here in our area so they can carry on and continue the business here in the Carbon/Emery county area,” explained Principal Keller. This has been such a huge part of the school’s function that it will be quite a change for students and faculty that were involved in the business.

Principal Keller finished by recognizing important individuals who make the school such a huge success, “We have fantastic staff, our teachers, our aides – paraprofessionals, our cooking staff, our bus aides and drivers all work hard, every day to bring a good experiences into the lives of our students and our goal is to increase everyone, all of our students who attend the Castle Valley Center to increase their quality of life.” The school always appreciates volunteers so if you would like to donate your time please call the school at (435) 637-9150.
