The No. 2 ranked Emery Spartans earned their biggest road win of the season, topping No. 4 San Juan 62-59 in overtime Wednesday night in Blanding.

Trailing by 10 points midway through the third quarter, the Spartans quickly found their rhythm from beyond the arc. Outscoring San Juan 13-9 in the fourth, Emery capped the game off with a 9-6 run in overtime.

Senior Jordan Ekker poured in a game-high 24 points, 15 of which came from beyond the arc. Not regulated to just perimeter play on offense, Ekker made several key plays inside the paint to help the Spartans overcome the Broncos.

Brax Jensen continued to deliver consistent offensive production with 21 points, including four crucial free throws to tie the game off of a technical foul. Kyler Wilstead finished with seven points, Seth Justice scored six and Justin Rasmussen ended with four.

San Juan was led by center Nate Grover, who scored a season-high 13 points. Forward Ryan Imlay scored 12, while leading scorer Jaxon Torgerson was limited to 10.

Wednesday’s win marks the seventh straight for the Spartans, moving them to 14-3 overall and 6-1 in division play. Emery remains the No. 2 team ranked in the 3A classification.

Three wins away from guaranteeing at least share of the Region 12 crown, the Spartans will wrap up the week Friday at home against the Carbon Dinos.

Friday’s league tilt will mark the second and final meeting of the two this regular season. Emery won a 57-52 thriller at Carbon High on Jan. 10.

Live coverage of Friday night’s contest will begin at 6:30 on KOAL 107.3 FM and 750 AM or at castlecountryradio.com.
