The Green River Pirate basketball squad has been on quite a run lately winning six of their last seven, with their only loss coming at the hands of the Grand County Red Devils from the 3A ranks. They would travel to Montezuma Creek to take on Whitehorse on January 28, and they would come up on the wrong end of a 51-49 score.

The Pirates would come out in the first quarter taking the two point lead but in a preview of things to come, were outscored by five points as Whitehorse would take a 31-28 lead to the locker rooms at halftime. Green River would come storming back in the third holding their opponent to just four points. And then it would be time for Whitehorse to make it’s second half run, holding the Pirates to 11 points while scoring 16 and holding on for the two point victory.

Axel Anguiano scored 15 points to lead the Pirates. Weston Hatfield added 13 and Rad Hughes and Virg Mendoza both added eight points in the loss.
