Bryar Meccariello and Hayes Dalton both claimed first place in their weight class as the Emery Spartans finished second as a team at the Divisional Tournament Friday and Saturday in Richfield.

Competing at the Sever Valley Center, the Spartans qualified all but four of the 24 competing wrestlers at the event.

Meccariello continued to dominate the competition as he secured four pins in four matches to secure first place at 152-pounds. Meccariello has already set the state pin record during the recent campaign and continues to add more to his illustrious resume’.

Dalton equaled Meccariello by also pinning all four of his opponents on-route to a championship at 170-pounds. The first place finishes mean each will enter the state tournament as No. 1 seeds.

Sid Christiansen worked all the way to the championship before suffering his first loss in a second-place performance at 106-pounds. Byron Christiansen and Braden Howard both finished third in the 120 and 220 weight classes.

The Spartans will now shift their focus to the State Championship Tournament on Feb. 14 and 15 at Utah Valley University in Orem.
