Emery County is unique in that they have five senior centers to accommodate the needs of their senior citizens in the county.

“Unlike Carbon County where we have two senior centers, one in East Carbon and one that serves the majority of the population here in Carbon County; Emery County is a little more far spread, don’t know if you’ve been down that way recently but we do have five Senior Centers so one in Huntington, one in Castle Dale, Ferron, Emery has its own and then Green River has its own Senior Center as well,” said Director Robbie Jensen. Operational hours for each of the centers is 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Thursday.

Lunches are offered differently than the Carbon Senior Center as Emery only offers lunch on certain days of the week. “Mondays for Huntington, Ferron and Emery, Tuesday is lunch in Castle Dale and then Green River has its own schedule for Tuesday and Wednesday they have lunches there. Mobile Meals are available in both areas. Green River again just on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but we have Meals on Wheels that are available Monday through Friday in the greater portion of Emery County,” said Jensen. The lunches are served on their scheduled days from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.

Seniors in Emery County should mark their calendars for a Grandparents Day event that is scheduled to take place on May 14 at the Castle Dale Senior Center. “So this is going to be the first time that we have ever done a Grandparents Day down in Emery County and I think it’s a great opportunity for those seniors that are also caring for their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, whatever it might be we have activities for the grandkids and then we also have resources available for those seniors,” stated Jensen. A few resources scheduled to be on-hand for the event will be the Utah Highway Patrol, Southeastern Utah Health Department and other local resources from the area. There will even be an arts and crafts project set up for those children to participate in.

If individuals have questions about the center’s activities and events, they are asked to call their local center for more information. The Emery County Centers locations and contact information are as follows:
