The Castle Valley area has had some frigid temperatures this week so Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood took time on his weekly update to talk about it.

“So you know its weird if you get out of town at all, the further you go and the animals are struggling and just be respectful of them this time of year. This is when they need to conserve energy. Don’t make them expend any unnecessary energies. If you see them, don’t spook them, just leave them alone,” stated Wood. The animals are moving from the higher to lower ground in order to find food and shelter. They will move back up to the mountains when the temperatures warm up and when their food is not so scarce.

It’s important to remember to give extra care to our domestic pets when temperatures drop. “You know a lot of people don’t realize its as important for your domestic pets to have water in the wintertime as it is in the summer. Because their water bowl freezes and stuff, you got to make sure that they have lots of hydration,” said Wood. If your pet’s water is freezing pet owners might want to think about purchasing a heated pet bowl.

“Just make sure that you are thinking about them, make sure you feed them a little extra; and as far as the wildlife goes careful on Carbonville Road, Spring Glen, Highway 6 all the way up to Helper, lot of animals down in that area right now. The east interchange out there on the other side of Price, east side, I see a lot of deer that have been hit there. So just know to be looking for those animals there,” explained Wood.
