This week’s Castle Country Radio Legislative Update was able to catch up with Senator David Hinkins to talk about what is going on up at the State Capital.

“Right now, the Appropriation Requests are the big issue and of course as everyone knows the General Fund does not have a lot of money in it and so that’s one of the things probably there won’t be a lot of,” stated Senator Hinkins. One of the requests that Hinkins has submitted again this year is to help with a water issue above the Castleview Hospital that is causing flooding in some homes, however, there is a strong possibility that it will not be approved this year due to financial restrictions.

Hinkins also has a funding request in for the Energy Center located over in Orangeville as he explains, “Education has got money in it so the high ed, which would be the college, USU Eastern will be able to hopefully get some money appropriated at least part of it to get that up and running for research.”

“That’s been our big thing right now is to try and get our budget under and we passed our Senate Bills yesterday on the floor which gives us a base budget in case everything can’t get worked out at least we have a base budget that we can go forward or to make as existing so the state can function,” said Senator Hinkins. This process is done early on in the legislative process so that state knows what they are working with.
